Sports Round Up from Miss Wright

On Wednesday 25th May 4DM travelled to the John Charles Centre for Sport to take part in the Active Schools KS2 Multi Sports event . The class were split into two groups with both groups trying their hand at tennis, basketball and kick boxing. It was amazing to see the children with smiles on their faces and so involved. A great day had by all.

Allerton C of E Primary School Golfers finished 2nd overall at the NE Leeds Active Schools Tri-Golf Tournament on Tuesday 7th June. They narrowly missed out on qualifying for the West Yorkshire Summer Games however I am confident that with a bit more coaching the team will be in with a great chance next year.

The year 4 football team put on a fine display at the Active Schools Under 9 European Championships held at John Charles Centre for Sport on Thursday 9th June. Considering that the team have not played many fixtures this year they were exceptional and during the morning session they were unbeaten. They were then re- grouped with stronger opposition in the afternoon and they did not disappoint, whilst they didn’t win all of their games they certainly gave a good account of themselves and it filled me with confidence going in to next year when they will be entered into a league. Well done boys keep up the good work.

A special mention must go to Louis Ingold who played brilliantly all day

Friday 10th of June saw 70 KS2 children take part in the Active Schools Brownlee Tri-Athlon Event held at John Charles Centre for Sport. The children were fantastic and it was great to see so many involved in a brilliant event.

The Girls football team took part in the St Barts 7 a side Cup on Wednesday 15th June and whilst they didn’t progress from their group they gave a great account of themselves and were a real credit to the school.

Monday 27th June saw Allerton C of E Primary School enter 3 teams in to the Active Schools Olympic football event held at Wigton Moor Football Club. All 3 teams did exceptionally well with two of the 3 teams finishing 2nd in their group narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi-finals .The teams were a mix of both boys and girls from year 5 and 6 and it was great to see all 3 teams  working hard, encouraging each other and playing some great football.

The year 6 football team were back in action on Thursday 30th June when they faced Carr Manor Primary School. The team did everything that was asked of them and they finished the game as 3-2 winners with two goals from Thomas Taylor and one from Aqif Abdalla. Ellis Kimmit had his best game yet and Josiah Yidana was a rock in defence. Given that the team didn’t have their first choice goalkeeper they worked exceptionally hard to protect the goal and grind out a win.
